This is a simple, simple rig I created for ‘Jöns and the Spider’, a beautiful looking cut-out animation by Margot Tsakiri-Scanatovits and Soyoung Hyun – both studying at the 2nd year of RCA.

This was done for the talended Mr. David Prosser who is working on his 2nd year film now. I was asked to animate these short shots for his film in Photoshop. Only few more weeks to go so all the very best for all the 2nd year people!

These are some shots from my film I am working on now, Ordæmonium. It is about a character who struggles to overcome some of his fears and nightmares and the film is an insight into his state of mind.

The film, if all goes well, will be finished by the end of May and hopefully will hit the festival circuit afterwards.

I was inspired to have some experiments after reading about Chaos theory (about dynamical systems that depend highly upon the initial conditions and the consequent unpredictability of the results – often referred to as Butterfly Effect).

I wanted to try to recreate a self-organising (pattern creating) behaviour by setting up a visual feedback loop. The idea was to have this system result in fractal like visual loop that establishes self-generated patterns (as the input feeds on the output, e.g. like the Mandelbrot set does). I used my macbook’s web camera and failed the task but will have another go with better equipment once I lay my hand on a hdmi-dvi converter.

For the time being this is merely an artistic impression.

The sequence is a series of film strips shot with my Canon AE-1, I scanned strips in and finished the job off with Digital Fusion.

I shot stills of neon lights, a book, and handrails at the Victoria Dock in London with multiple exposures.

I was working on the preproduction of the ident of the 2010 Animex festival with the guys from the Wishing Well Animation studio run by Ben Klimmek and Lars Ellingbo.

Preplanning and rigging the main character were some of my main duties. Here is a snippet from the storyboard:

This is the showreel we had to submit for our group project. Not happy with it at all, but it was the last thing I had to deliver this year. For this reason, I was more than happy to finally finish uni. In case you are wondering, the music is Dave Matthews. Also, see the “character sheet” below.

Probably this is the last update, as it is time to hand my final year project in. The next two or three weeks will be another though run to finish Creative Animation, Studio Practice and Business and Drawing and Composition. At the moment I have no idea how I will do it, but hopefully I will manage (I was suggested to perhaps sleep more, so…)

The sound is of course is very much temporary, I will rework it once I get time after uni to work on the exciting things again.

I am totally running out of time, yet there are so many details and major consideratioins that I should be chaning or reviewing. I will devote the next week to do the post-production and add audio finally.

Note: it is intentionally low-key but it should not be this dark. I loose brighness somewhere between Premiere and Vimeo.

Luckily all fixed, hopefully might be beneficial to some of the fellow students. Here is the friendly schematic for the system – it has all one need, bone driven lid rotations, flesh movement surrounding the eyes and… well that is all…:-) :
